Water Diversion Speed Humps Installation at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Resort

Water Diversion Speed Humps

As part of a recent water diversion project at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Resort, Speed Humps Australia was engaged to assist in resolving a significant drainage issue affecting the road infrastructure.

The resort faced a design challenge where stormwater drains were positioned in the middle of the roadway but were higher than the adjacent gutters. As a result, heavy rainfall would bypass the drains entirely, flowing rapidly down the gutters toward the lower sections of the complex. This uncontrolled runoff caused severe erosion along the roadside and contributed to pavement degradation.

To mitigate this issue, Speed Humps Australia provided a strategic solution by installing our 50mm high rounded top speed humps at specific locations within the resort.

These speed humps were placed at 45-degree angles within the side gutters to act as controlled water deflectors, effectively redirecting stormwater from the gutters back toward the centre roadway drains. This innovative application successfully ensured that a larger volume of rainwater was captured by the drainage system, significantly reducing erosion and preventing further damage to the pavement.

Following the success of the initial installation, additional 50mm high rounded top speed humps were later installed further down the complex to capture and redirect even more runoff toward the drainage system. This approach has proven to be an effective and cost-efficient way to enhance water flow management and protect the resort’s infrastructure from long-term damage.

How Councils Can Lead by Example Without Breaking the Budget

Councils across Australia are under increasing pressure to enhance road safety, particularly in residential areas, school zones, and high-pedestrian traffic precincts. Yet, with limited budgets and lengthy approval timelines, it's often a challenge to balance public expectations with fiscal responsibility. Fortunately, not every safety upgrade

Protecting Vulnerable Road Users in Council Spaces

Protecting vulnerable road users in council spaces is critical as shared road environments become more common across Australian towns and cities. These mixed-use zones—where pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles interact—can be effective, but only when safety is central to their design. For councils, this means prioritising
