Using Rumble Bars To Assist Mine Site Safety

We regularly supply a number of mine sites with our products to create what is known as ‘Fundamentally Stable Parking Bays.’ Mine site safety is paramount for most mining companies and that includes all areas of the mine including parking areas.

Generally on mine sites vehicles reverse into parking bays. With a wheel stop deployed at the back of the parking bay and a speed hump fixed in place tyre-width apart from this, the idea is that should a driver forget to apply the handbrake or the braking system on a vehicle fails, the rear wheel is securely locked in place between a wheel stop and a speed hump.

However, we recently worked with one of our regular customers and instead of deploying speed humps to secure the wheels they used our 600mm yellow rumble bars to do the job.

As only the tyres are required to be secured, this is actually a far more efficient and cost-effective option than installing a speed hump which would cover the whole width of the parking bay. The additional benefits of using the rumble bars for this purpose are that they’re less expensive to ship and easier to install. All in all this represents another great, innovative use of the rumble bar.

What’s more, we recently had our rumble bars tested independently for durability. The test results from the university lab showed that they are able to withstand up to 50 tonnes with no deterioration.
