In the world of mine site infrastructure, safety and efficiency are paramount. One often overlooked but crucial aspect of any mine site parking area is ensuring that vehicles are parked securely and safely. Fundamentally stable parking is the cornerstone of achieving this, ensuring vehicles are correctly positioned, reducing accidents, and improving overall safety. With this in mind, we have continually worked to improve and evolve our product offerings to meet the mining industry’s demands better.

Evolution of Mine Site Parking Solutions

Rumble Bar Parking Guide Fundamentally Stable Parking Bays Mine Sites

Initially, we provided mining sites with our standard 2.7M Round Top Rubber Speed Hump. This product, supplied in two pieces, included end caps that were attached to the first 1M section of the speed hump. This design added strength and stability, making the product highly effective. The rounded top design was chosen for its practicality — it was easier for vehicles to roll back over with minimal acceleration, reducing the risk of dangerous acceleration when crossing the speed hump. In comparison, the more aggressive flat-top speed humps often require more force to pass over, which could lead to excessive acceleration and potentially unsafe driving behaviour.

The Introduction of 600MM YELLOW Rumble Bars

While the standard speed hump proved effective in many cases, we knew there was a more efficient and safer solution for parking bays, especially in mine sites where space and time are of the essence. We began testing and recommending our 600MM YELLOW Rumble Bar product for these fundamentally stable parking bays. The rumble bars are designed to be placed within the wheel tracks of parking bays before the wheel stop, guiding vehicles into position with ease.

These rumble bars are 50MM (H) and 170MM (W), providing an effective chock or stop point under each wheel, ensuring that vehicles roll over them and rest securely against the wheel stop. The narrower profile of the rumble bars allows for easy rolling over, requiring minimal acceleration, while still providing an effective halt. This makes the parking bay setup safer and more efficient, reducing the risk of acceleration that might otherwise occur with a flat top-speed hump.

Advantages of Rumble Bars Over Speed Humps

The 600MM YELLOW Rumble Bar product offers numerous benefits over flat top speed humps, including:

  • Cost-effectiveness: The rumble bars require only 3 fixings per bar, totalling 6 fixings per parking bay, compared to the 14 fixings typically needed for a speed hump. This translates into a more economical solution for both the product and the installation process.
  • Quicker and Easier Installation: Installation is faster and simpler, allowing for quicker turnaround times and reducing downtime on the site.
  • Minimal acceleration Required: The rumble bars’ narrow width (170MM) and height (50MM) allow vehicles to roll over them smoothly, with minimal acceleration, while still providing a strong stopping or checkpoint.
  • Enhanced Visibility: The bright yellow colour with yellow reflectors makes the rumble bars highly visible, ensuring they can be seen clearly in low light or nighttime conditions. This is a distinct advantage over traditional yellow and black speed humps, which can sometimes be harder to spot.

Widespread Adoption Across Mine Sites

These rumble bars have been successfully implemented in mine sites across Queensland, New South Wales, and Western Australia, becoming a trusted solution for creating fundamentally stable parking bays. Many mine managers choose them because they are easy to set up, save money, and make the mine safer. Additionally, the rumble bars are also used in bus depots, where they assist buses in aligning correctly within their overnight parking bays. Two sets of rumble bars are placed so that the vehicle’s wheels rest between them, ensuring that cars can enter and exit parking bays smoothly and safely in the same direction.

Why Fundamentally Stable Parking Matters

Fundamentally stable parking must be balanced in the mine site infrastructure. By choosing the right products, such as our 600MM YELLOW Rumble Bars, operators can ensure that parking areas are both safe and efficient. These rumble bars guide vehicles into position, prevent unnecessary acceleration, and provide a secure stopping point for vehicles. Furthermore, the ease of installation and cost-effectiveness of the rumble bars make them an ideal choice for mine sites looking to optimise their parking infrastructure.

Ultimately, safer and smarter mine site parking leads to fewer accidents, better vehicle control, and improved operational efficiency. As we continue to innovate and provide more effective solutions, we are proud to be part of the evolution of mine site safety and infrastructure.
